First "hike" of this season

Today was in the low 50s, cloudy, and misty. We chose today as the day to start venturing out into the wilderness.

Ok so it wasn't really the wilderness. We went out to a local park, Squaw Creek Park.

The upper part of the park was still closed to vehicles. We parked at the bottom of the park and decided to walk up to the top.

As we are gearing up to start the walk, one thing becomes apparent. We forgot the baby carrier. Luckily we had the stroller.

For most of the winter we haven't really done much of anything. Well truth be told we haven't done much of anything since our buddy Slim passed away August 2015. Last year I was pregnant and couldn't hardly breath to go hiking, fishing reminded us of Slim, and Scott was boycotting water in hopes of convincing me to move back to Florida.

This year is going to be different.

So here we are, James in his stroller, Scott, and our buddy Mike. Rather than going down the trails we decide to walk up the road to the playground. Easy first hike right? That's what we thought. No big deal.

Now mind you, all 3 of us adults are smokers that haven't done much of anything since 2015. We set off happy as can be to just be out of the house after being cooped up for the better part of 7 months.

As we start making our way up this big hill we quickly learned just how out of shape we really are. It was not pretty to see 3 full grown adults huffing and puffing making their way up this hill that shouldn't be a challenge.

It becomes clear that we have a long way to go before the start of mushroom season at the end of the month.

Three quarters of the way up the hill we all need to stop for a moment to catch our breath.  We make it to the top to be greeted with a bench.  Oh what a sight that was, a beautiful, precious, bench. We take this opportunity to sit down, get a drink, take in the view, and give our legs a break.

When we finally got going again we made it around the curve before we stopped because James wanted out of the stroller and to goof around.

It wouldn't be a successful hike or walk without some goofing around! James wanted to show off his wiggly standing skills.

After that we started going again, this time we made it all the way to the playground!

First we played on the swings then Scott took him up onto the playground

We played around for a while. Once it started drizzling again we decided to head out. The walk back to the trucks was fairly uneventful, just talks about how we are going to go for hikes every day, how Mike is going to join the YMCA, How we are going to go fishing and floating this summer and just all of the fun we plan on having this summer.

All in all it was a pretty uneventful first hike. I can't wait for the weather to cooperate more and go out more!
